Answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked...
How much space will I get?
Each stall comprises a six foot table with access at one end and two chairs. If you do not require a table the frontage will be six feet plus access space. You can book more space at marquee events. Please see the marquee part of the booking form.
If I book an ‘end of row’ will I get more space?
Probably not. An end of row stall is what it says, a stall at the end of a row. It does not necessarily mean that you will get any extra space. Sometimes end of row positions do have extra space that you are welcome to use but it can never be guaranteed.
Can I set up extra tables, clothes rails or racks etc...?
We have no objections to extra tables etc. providing you can fit them in your allotted space. They must not unreasonably block gangways or inconvenience your neighbours. If they do you will be asked to move them immediately.
What if I need more than six feet?
If you need more space than a six foot table with access, then you must book more than one stall or a larger stall at marquee events. You can also book one and one-half stalls. To do this just insert 11⁄2 on the booking form and calculate the fee at one and one-half times the single stall rate. We cannot help anyone who turns up with a nine foot stand and complains that it won’t fit into a six foot space.
If I ask for demonstration space, will I get it?
Not necessarily. Oakleigh Fairs endeavour to keep stall fees down by filling venues to capacity. Some venues do not have space for demonstrations but we are happy to provide it, free of charge, wherever possible. It can never be guaranteed though. You will be advised in your final event confirmation if you have been allocated demonstration space.
Will I be the only person at the fair doing my craft?
Again, not necessarily. Oakleigh Fairs limit the number of each type of craft at each fair. As a guideline we try to keep to one stall in every twenty but please don’t take this as a guaranteed maximum. On smaller fairs (up to 60), there will frequently be three or four of the more common crafts. At larger fairs, where there are more applicants than spaces we tend to keep to the one in twenty guideline. With popular crafts, where there are always more applicants than space, we endeavour to select stalls that reflect a variety of different aspects of that craft. Oakleigh Fairs do try to avoid having too many stalls that clash but there will, necessarily, be a degree of overlap otherwise no fairs could ever be filled.
When will I know which bookings have been accepted?
Normally within a fortnight of receiving your booking form we will write to you confirming which events we have been able to accept you for. We will return any payment for unaccepted fairs to you at that time. You will then receive an individual confirmation in the week preceding the fair giving you full details of that event.
What happens if I need to cancel a fair?
If you cancel a fair up to one calendar month before the date of that fair you will be charged a £10 administration fee. If you cancel less than one month before the fair you will forfeit your full stall fee, even if we re-let your stall. If you cannot attend a fair you must let us know as soon as possible please.
What can I sell and can I sell more than one craft on my stall?
Only the crafts that you have listed on your booking form. We do have a preference for hand-made crafts but will consider other well designed items if they seem appropriate. We are prepared to accept bookings for more than one craft, however, the more crafts you sell the less likely it is that we can accept you. All crafts must be stated on the booking form.
May I post-date my cheques?
Every booking must be accompanied by a currently dated deposit cheque and an individual cheque, post-dated to one calendar month before each fair, for the balance. Please note. You must send one deposit cheque and one balance cheque per fair. IF YOU ELECT TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD NO DEPOSIT IS NEEDED. Please see the credit card section of the booking form. Remember, there is also an option to pay on the day.
Will electricity be available?
Yes, at no extra payment. An electricity point will be provided within ten feet of your stall but you should provide adequate extension cable to reach your table and your own lamps etc. The maximum load that any stall is allowed to draw for lighting is 200watts. If your lighting exceeds this then you may be instructed to turn some off. If you require more power for machinery you should advise us at the time of booking. Multi-way adaptors must not be used at any venue.
When should I arrive and when should I leave?
The unloading time for most of our indoor events is 9am. Generally fairs start at 10.30am and close at 4.00pm. There is no advantage in turning up particularly early and you must not start to pack away until the advertised finishing time. Please leave your stall space tidy with any rubbish in bags or boxes.
Is smoking allowed at Oakleigh Fairs?
In response to stallholder’s demands, we have a NO SMOKING policy. We prefer stallholders not to smoke even if the venues do not display ‘No Smoking’ signs.
